Who should attend:                If you are new to a computer, or would like a better understanding of    how a computer works, this course is for you.

 

Suggested Background:         Absolutely no experience necessary

 

If you are just learning how to use personal computers to improve your productivity, this course will get you started on the right foot.  You will gain a solid understanding of basic computer concepts, operations, and the components of a personal computer system.  In order to become familiar with the different ways you can use your computer, you will get hands on experience with software for word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and database.

 

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

 

          Identify the Hardware Components of a PC System

                   Understand how information gets into a computer

                   How to use the keyboard and mouse

                   Identify different types of printers and monitors

                   Understand why software is necessary

 

          Understand the Difference between Memory and File Storage

                   Identify RAM and its characteristics

                   Compare floppy drive and hard disks

                   Differentiate between program files and data files

                   Clear data from RAM

                   Save data on a disk, using a software program

                   Retrieve data from the disk, using a software program

 

          Work with Popular Software Programs

                   Identify the Disk Operating System and its functions

                   Use a word processor

                   Use a spreadsheet

                   View a business graph

                   Control a database
